At least 5 friends have had children 40-45

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, June 18, 2007 | 1 comments

I have at least 5 friends who have had children in their 40's (40-45), with only great results. Your family will love any new family member once they are here, and should be ashamed of themselves when they realize that if you had listened to them, their lives (and yours) wouldn't have been as enriched.

My Grandmother had her youngest at 46.

My Great grand mother did not start having children till she was 37, and had 12 before she stopped. But, of course, there was a couple of sets of twins in there. So you are not too old to be having babies.

I was 42 (3 weeks shy of my 43rd birthday) when I had my first and my husband and I would like to have more children. I was encouraged to read of the 47 year old who has a 19 month old. Our society is so focused on "me" that they don't see the blessing of little ones. You keep on keeping on!!

I am 45 and have a 3 year old and a 9 month old. Occasionally I do feel "too old", but having these two precious girls in my life more than makes up for those days! Do what your heart tells you -- not what other people tell you!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.

  1. I'm confused... are you trying to tell people they should have children over this age? don't you know the risks? isnt that a selfish thing to do?
