I just turned 49 & found I'm 5w pregnant

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, February 14, 2007 | 1 comments

I just turned 49 last month. I thought I was starting menopause, so I stopped using birth control. I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant. I consider this a tremendous blessing from God. I finally found my soul mate and we want this child with all of our hearts. I believe if you can imagine it; you can do it.

I am 47, and pregnant with twins! The pregnancy was unplanned, but my husband and I think we'll do just fine with the new family! It will keep us young! We already have a 26, 25 year old and 14 year old. My 25 year old is pregnant and due 6 weeks before me.

My family are being very supportive and my 14 year old daughter still loves to rub my belly and feel the babies kick. It's nice having a teenager, as they help out with the things I can't do right now (I am 18 weeks gone and HUGE), such as changing the beds and always accompanies me to my scans!

I find myself worrying what people say, but try to focus on what I want in my life. I have 4 children, 20, 18, 15 & 2 and now I am 27 weeks pregnant with my 5th. After my last baby people would say things like, you're a baby maker, now we know how babies are made, oh you're starting over?, etc.

I feel like it is a gift from God to have these precious ones. I didn't plan the 4th, but was pleasantly surprised and filled with constant joy ever since the day that my son was born. After his birth I had the burning desire to have one more. I prayed for one more. I'm so happy to be having this 5th child at age 44.

I had my first at age 24. I can say from my personal experience it seems to me that as an older mom this time, I feel like I appreciate this precious life so much and am more in tune with the awe of the miracle of a baby and am so involved, amazed and focused on every milestone of baby. I think when you are young we are happy go lucky, take things for granted and sometimes don't realize the fullness of the experience of motherhood.

I am pregnant with my fourth child and a surprise sort of. My first is turning 30 and my second is turning 27 in June. My 3rd is turning 3 years, and then I am pregnant 7 weeks and I have just turned 46 and my husband turned 49, I am still nursing 4-5 times a day and hope to continue to through this pregnancy.

People usually guess me at about 35-38 years not just because of my looks but because of my vitality. I DO NOT CARE what people say or think I love my children and just try and do my best. I am very proud of the energy level that I have and the things I do with my children.

We will keep it a secret till about 3-4 months and will not go through any genetic counselling, we will be happy with whatever it is that we get and pray for healthy, happy and beautiful like the other three.

One more!!! I'm 45, 33 weeks pregnant with my second son. I will be 46 when he is born. All the information we have so far, suggests a healthy baby. He has an almost 3 year old brother. My husband is 50. We just did our lives in reverse......

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.

It's so nice to hear that women can conceive at 49 years old and without going through IVF. I got married late in life and want to have a child as well. Hope everything works out for you.
