I am a 46 year old pregnant mom. I am 5 months. I have a 24 year old and a 14 year old. My husband and I are very excited. So far I am having a normal pregnancy. I feel that I am blessed.

I am 43, but will be 44 when the baby is due, July 06. I will be a single parent but like others, feel this is my last chance therefore I am intending to continue with the pregnancy (subject to the usual tests). The pregnancy was totally unexpected. I just didn’t think I would get pregnant at my age.

I had a baby girl last November (30/11/04) when I was 44 years old. My pregnancy was great and I enjoyed good health and gave birth naturally at home. The experience was amazing, particularly as I have two other daughters who are 19 and 21 year old. They were born in hospital and although the births were straightforward I felt much more in control and relaxed at home this time. My daughter weighed 8lb 3 oz and came a week early.

I am now 45 and have a five-year old son and a new baby boy who is now 3 months old. We had dismissed the idea of any sort of medical intervention having seen friends go through a lot of stress and have their relationships suffer and in one case end because of the emotional pressures of fertility treatment.

So our first baby was a lovely surprise, and having had him we couldn't imagine life without him. Sadly, [the next] time I miscarried. Luckily I fell pregnant again pretty soon, but it was a difficult pregnancy I think also made worse by my fears following the last experience. Only now can I feel that this is water under the bridge and really enjoy the new baby.

A friend of mine defied stats and had own egg IVF baby at 47. She had had another child at the age of 21 and her tubes became blocked due to illness. She did do quite a few attempts. I think she's probably the exception to the rule.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
