Surprise baby at age 46, with grown children

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, June 25, 2006 | 0 comments

I was communicating with two women at the time, trying to give them emotional support... one was age 51 and had a 4 year old, a surprise baby at age 46, she had grown children and this little guy came along in a new relationship she started in her mid-40's. She said she got lots of strange looks from his classmate's parents, but still refused to cover her grey hair, she was so desperate to have friends in the same age group with a young child...

The other woman was 50 year old and her story was heartbreaking...she found out she was pregnant at age 50 just after breaking up with her boyfriend, the baby's father. She wasn't getting any support from her doctor, but her two daughters ages 18 & 21 told her they were excited about the pregnancy & would support her (even financially!!!) Over the next few months she started looking forward to having the baby and was sounding more upbeat in her messages...then sadly she miscarried even though she was past the first trimester, there was an Rh factor incompatibility, the miscarriage was not due to her age. She was devastated.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
