Just found out I am pregnant at 44!!!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, March 02, 2006 | 0 comments

Just found out I am pregnant at 44!!! My husband and I are still shocked (but thrilled) to find out that we are expecting. Have to go for a sonogram tomorrow, but the doctor estimates we are about 4 to 5 weeks. I have been through multiple surgeries, endometriosis, adhesions etc. over the past 20 years, and never thought it could happen.

I am 45 and just found out 2 days ago that I am pg. with my 5th child!! I am shocked and kind of nervous. I know that 45 is not that much different than 41 when I had my last child, but I am so very nervous because this one was not planned.

My friend had a baby at 46 and everything was fine.

We've been through quite a bit- IVF, medical procedures and surgeries, and then were all set to adopt when I found out I was pg with my son at 43 (with no medical assistance at all).

Last Christmas I was rushed into casualty with pains in my side and was told that I probably have a UTI. They asked me to bring a urine sample first thing following morning. After a few hours the Lab rang me at work telling me that I am pregnant. Well - Shocked - isn’t the word! I’ve had my family of three boys - age 20,18 and 16. Went home in a daze, my family was totally in shock. We sat in silence almost over dinner. I’m 44 years old, and my baby girl due August 2004

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
