Natural conception 2 months short of her 50th birthday!!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, February 24, 2006 | 0 comments

I was nursing an almost 90 year old lady last night and discovered that her 6th and last child was born just 40 years ago last week, when she was 2 months short of her 50th birthday!! A natural conception and it was only when she went into labour that the nurses and doctors were panicking around her (she didn't understand why?) until baby was born and checked and everyone heaved a sigh of relief. She didn't even consider that there would be anything wrong with her baby. Its amazing how many elderly ladies I have nursed who have had babies in their late forties and thought nothing about it.

I know a woman who got pregnant at 53 after she thought she had completed menopause. Her 65 year old husband had just retired when they found out. He went back to work.

It took me 2 years TTC to finally get my good egg but at 46 I got pregnant and now have a very healthy 3 year old.

my friend had her first at 44... I just visited her a couple of weeks ago. Her baby is now about 9 months old. She got pregnant on her first try with IVF at 43, and had her baby at 44.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
