Surprise! I was 46 when I found I was pregnant.

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, December 20, 2005 | 0 comments

Hi, I am glad to find someone around my age expecting at my edd. My edd is 7/8/04 so one day later. Unfortunately, I don't usually make my expectant date so the baby will arrive in July. I was 46 when I found out I was pregnant. It was a total surprise and we hadn't planned on this event, but we are very happy now. My prenatal tests have all showed a healthy baby, I feel very lucky.

Hi ladies - another anecdote. My colleague's wife had her first baby three years ago. The lady in the bed next to her was having her 7th (I think) child. She was 58 - natural conception and gave birth naturally (although had been expected to need a c-section).

My grandmother, at age 44, had my dad's youngest sister six months after I was born.

Finally, I conceived at one month short of 44 - and my partner has sperm issues. So far, my pregnancy has been completely normal and it's my first baby.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
