Naturally conceived twins - 47 is NOT too old!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, December 10, 2005 | 0 comments

Susan, 47, Shetlands, Scotland - I am expecting naturally conceived twins in Feb/05. I just wanted to post a message to let all the other older mums out there know that it is possible and that 47 is NOT too old.

Gwen, Cardiff, Wales - I am 47 and gave birth to healthy twin girls at the tender age of 46. I had a relatively problem-free pregnancy and carried my babies to 38 weeks. They were both a very healthy weight - 6lbs 1oz and 6lbs 7oz - that's the equivalent to a twelve and a half pound single baby!!

Linda, 47, Lancaster, CA - I was 44 when we tried to conceive. I was told after 1 year of trying that my ovaries were dead and that my chances were 1 in a million to conceive. Two months later, I conceived naturally. My pregnancy went well and, at 46, I gave birth to a healthy boy.

Sherri, 45 - I am a single mom. My son is a year old now. My pregnancy was a total surprise (I was taking birth control). I had never planned to have a child, but it is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me.

Penny, Guildford, England - Baby at 46 - After several months of trying in 2002 we 'gave up' and left it to fate. I changed my lifestyle from 45 hours work a week to 20 hours/week and lo and behold, baby!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
