Oldest successful IVF with own eggs stands at 47

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, April 08, 2008 | 2 comments

I had a looong chat with the assisting nurse while we waited for the doctor. She said that their clinic had a 46 year old woman become pregnant with twins last year due sometime this year.

She almost broke the record for oldest successful ivf with own eggs which stands at 47.

I got my second positive this morning... on a FRED [First Response Early Digital Pregnancy test]. It is light, but definitely there. I am around 3 days late and EDD [estimated date of delivery] is October 27th.

My dh is almost 57 and this is our 3rd pregnancy since 2004. The other two resulted in miscarriages (missed miscarriage at 9 1/2 weeks, August 2004 and miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks, April, 2006).
We are celebrating our 5th anniversary on the 11th of April. I will wait to tell him, then. (that will be difficult)

I am so excited to see other's pregnant at my age... very encouraging...

A 44 year old client of mine delivered a healthy baby girl last night. The baby arrived before I did (1 hour labour) and the Dad did a great job delivering her. -- Del

My son was conceived without planning at age 44, born at 45. I do believe if my doctor did not accidentally give me a tubal ligation after his birth I would have conceived again. I had a reversal, but the damage had been done.

I know what you mean by the looks you will get. I went to have some blood work done and took my 6 month old daughter. The tech asked me if i was babysitting. I am 48, I guess they figure we are grandparents.

by Randine Lewis

-- Infertility affects one out of six couples today.

Dr. Lewis presents a groundbreaking alternative approach to infertility, explaining how she used traditional Chinese medicine to treat her own infertility, successfully conceiving and giving birth to two children.

In Lewis's experience, women who have undergone three to six months of the dietary changes, herbs and acupuncture treatments become pregnant with no further effort.

Lewis intersperses her somewhat technical examination of the program with anecdotes about her patients, weaving in discussions on diet, herbal supplements, acupuncture, older women and problems related to infertility.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.

    Hi
I am thrilled to be having my first baby conceived via ICSI using my own eggs at 47. All being well I will be 48 when baby is born (i'm currently 23 weeks today). I am so grateful..

Longella, which clinic did you use? Most will not treat you in the u.k. with your own eggs if you are over 45.
