Read in today's Mirror a feature on Arlene Phillips (Hot Gossip choreographer and Strictly Dance Fever Judge). She had her 2nd baby at aged 47- naturally - she says it was a complete surprise!! She is now 62 and her daughter is 15, her first daughter is 26.

Just read in paper today that Bridget Jones Author Helen Fielding is expecting 2nd baby at 48! She had her first at 46 - some hope for us would be "older" mums don’t you think.

I'm now 48 and just had a positive pregnancy test - my husband and I are excited and hoping I won't have a miscarriage. In the meantime I'm bracing myself for comments, both from health care professionals *and* relatives.

Why would her eggs be bad, I have a friend and an aunt who got pregnant at 48 years old and their kids are fine. They thought it was menopause but, surprise, she got the boy she wanted, after 5 girls.

As for being pregnant over 50, my 54 year old cousin gave birth on May 24th to her first child. She was in the hospital on bed rest for over 2 months and was originally due July 5.

As far as I know the baby was naturally conceived. We learned of the pregnancy around thanksgiving and it was a big shocker! Thanks, I know it's not impossible, improbable maybe, but not impossible to become pregnant when you're in your fifties.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
